Dealing with the Mess You Created by Shaun Saunders

I love vacuuming. I love cleaning. And I definitely love the fresh fragrance that comes after you have sprinkled just a tinge of carpet freshener on the carpet. So one day…it was some random day in January, I decided to vacuum. I ran to the bathroom, grabbed my Glade Tropical mist carpet freshener –ah, I can smell it now— and proceeded to sprinkle, sprinkle, sprinkle. I sprinkled everywhere: in the bedroom, in the living room, in the bathroom and in the front of our entrance door. Of course, I got heavy-handed when I got to the door because I wanted people to smell the freshness of the rug as soon as they walked in. Then the phone rang. I answered. I talked. Then someone knocked on the door. I responded. I handled the situation. Then it was time to go to class. I figured, “I’ll just run to class and come back. No big deal.” Then my wife called and asked me to pick her up. It wasn’t until seven hours later that I was able to come home and deal with the mess that I had created.

We Need God’s Character, Not the Caricature by Shaun Saunders

Romans 10:1-3 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

Character: the distinctive nature of something

Caricature: a picture, description, or imitation of a person or thing in which certain striking characteristics are exaggerated in order to create a comic or grotesque effect.

A moment of harvest: Which son are you? by Shaun Saunders

Proverbs 10:5 (KJV) He that gathereth in summer is a wise son; but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

John 9:4 (NIV) As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.

If you’re paying attention, you’ll see that the season has changed for Believers. Many have experienced extreme drought, and most have been challenged to exercise faith in new ways and trust God for that which we couldn’t see. Now is the time—not just because it’s a new year; not just because the winter season is halfway over—but now is the time for the harvest to overtake those who have walked uprightly. Not those who have done all things right. But those who keep getting up to chase after righteousness—yes, the up-right—even after we’ve done wrong; this season is for you. I feel it like never before. God is shifting our seasons and is ushering in “a summer” before spring (see Proverbs 10:5). Summer is when we go to pick up what the former rain has nourished. But this time, the rain will come after the harvest, because there is going to be more harvest to pick up after summer! Don’t miss it. I promise you. Now is the time. It’s the moment of harvest. He’s brought us into a new place, and already, we’re beginning to experience the precipitation of God’s latter rain.
